The little bird, the white throated dipper is a very entertaining bird.
People who know the bird’s behaviour smile in recognition when one refers to the bird’s one-man show.
The white throated dipper is Norway’s national bird.
When winter is hard in Norway, the dipper flies on holiday in Denmark. Ornithologists will probably express it differently, but I like the idea that the bird keeps a well-deserved holiday in a mild climate.
Besides the current Norwegian name Fossekall; ‘Waterfall Call’, the dipper has many dialect names in Norway.
Among these are Elveprest; ‘River Priest’ and Kvemkall; ‘Mill Shell’.
The dipper has at least 70 different local names in Norway, and at least 50-60 are known from Sweden.
NOTE
You can read much more about the bird on Wikipedia and listen to its song.
We were late. Was it possible to complete the walk around the lake before nightfall?
We can turn around if necessary, I said. Thus encouraged, we started the walk that’s cherished by so many people. Whether it’s because of the wren that jumps around in the undergrowth, the sheep on the meadow, the soft call of the bullfinch, hovering buzzards, squealing ducks or the blue flash of the kingfisher, I do not know.
But one thing is certain, people love the area and so do I.
The eastern light our spires touch at morning,
The light that slants upon our western doors at evening,
The twilight over stagnant pools at batflight,
Moon light and star light, owl and moth light,
Glow-worm glowlight on a grassblade.
O Light Invisible, we worship Thee!
T.S. Eliot
Keep your faith in beautiful things;
in the sun when it is hidden,
in the Spring when it is gone.

The most scary animal is now seen in a Danish forest near
by me.
It can fly which make it even more dangerous.
Luckily it only flies for a short distance of 300 meter but the sound of it is terrifying.
When it flies the animal sounds like a lawnmower.
If you imaging a monster flying around saying like a lawnmower with giant jaws.
But the most uplifting thing is that it’s only a beetle.

The beetle was an extinct insect in Denmark after 1970. Now 40 of the largest beetles are imported from Sweden and Poland.
The name is Lucanus Cervus or the Stag Beetle.
I shot the blueberry season underway yesterday. An early start for a delicious morsel. The characteristic for the blueberries are an upright, deciduous dwarf shrub with dark blue berries. Shrub is from 15 to 45 cm and is easily recognised because the branches are square, green and smooth. The leaves are 8-25 mm long, finely serrated, short-stemmed and green underside. Later in the year the leaves are often brown spotted. The flowers are first light, since red-green to completely red and sitting solitary in axils. The bloated jar shaped flowers are four to seven millimetres long; the stamens are smooth. The berries are six to eight mm, dark blue, or black glistening with a purple juice that reveals the blueberry eat socket when the lips are coloured blue – Very revealing, I might add.
Wish you all a good hunt!!!
Drifting clouds cast shadows on fields; lakes; trees and the path in front of me.
Nature becomes alive and everything changes. This is enchanting.
I hear fledglings everywhere, fragrant Mirabelle spread their delicate fragrance for the capture of bumblebees and other flying creatures to insure the next generation and supply pollen with legs and wings.

God tur i solen i morgen ❤

The Deer Park
Jægersborg Dyrehave offers many stories, and of course, the garden has been included on UNESCO’s World Heritage 😎
I have many different experiences in the garden: One foggy morning I could barely make out the castle; a day when the rain poured down and the animals went close past me while they were grazing; red deer, bathing on a hot afternoon in August; a winter day when the snow made the landscape look like the Norwegian mountains; and especially my discovery of a cholera cemetery and the connection to the Hawthorn plain.
I never thought one could experience that kind of things in a landscape that cultivated. Maybe that’s some of the magic when you are out for a walk, to get about on the conditions of nature and be open to new impressions.
Now I have tried a Hubertusjagt. It was pure coincidence, I learned ‘the hunt’ took place that particular day, and my curiosity overcame my urge to seek less crowded ‘wilderness’ areas.
Busy, it was in the Deer Park that day, and I only saw brief glimpses of the riders. I can live with that, because I saw a lot of happy people having their own private party going on.
Frederik and Mary and their children were watching the event from the castle.

Walk softly or you might intrude the fairies.
A Hawthorn is considered a fairy tree, it is believed to be extremely bad luck to cut one down, remove branches, or even hang things upon it in case you disturb the little folk.
The Hawthorn symbolizes fertility peace prosperity and binding. This tree is associated with sexuality and destruction. It was though that sleeping in a house with hawthorn blossoms would cause great misfortune.
Although on May Day the blossom are placed at the based of the May Pole.
The gathering of hawthorn blossoms was known has “goin a maying”.
In the legends of Cu Chulain a goddess pronounces a curse on him in crow form and flys to a thicket of hawthorns known has “hawthorn of the crow”. ¹.
Happy weekend to all of you ❤ …and a joyous walk 🙂
Some years ago, I took the train every morning from Hillerød towards Hundested to work.
At Christmas, I could see a Christmas tree brightened up the harbor area from my window. It was lashed to a crane in the harbor. An evocative sight.
The harbor is the focal point of the town. In summer, the town is filled with travelers, but I like it best in winter. Nature becomes more present due to sea storms and the changing light from the sea. Maybe I’m biased by my penchant for ships and water, but the harbor is a very exciting place.
If the weather was fine finishing work hours, I walked up past Knud Rasmussen’s house and further along the coast down to Kikhavn. From here I went along small country roads to the nearest train station. Always late supper 🙂
In the year 2013 Hundested was selected as the best port in Denmark because of the many wonderful activities.

Knud Rasmussen planned his next polar expedition from his study with a tantalizing view over the sea.
