The Oldest Oak in Northern Europe

We did this walk, while the heat wave swept across Denmark!
I’ve read about hiking trips in Corsica. “GR 20 – the toughest long distance trail in Europe”.
It’s mountainous terrain, but the biggest challenge is to get enough water.
Here comes my point; I craved for water on this walk in Denmark.
The planned route is about 10 kilometers. But it felt like 20 kilometers a least.
Just like a hike on the GR 20 at the end of the stages –
The reason for our visit was three very old oaks, the oldest of which is still alive.
King-Oak is the name of the tree and the age is between 1,500 and 2,000 years old.
A genuine Ent!
Northern Europe’s oldest oak tree, Quercus robur subsp. robur.

A walk in the shade

Winter came late this year and with a few days of Spring, Summer came with a sustained heat never experienced before.
Walking in the shade along a lake is wonderful.
We went for a great walk along Furesøen in late May with a cooling breeze from the lake.

A few days later we did a walk along the lake one morning.
Greetings of good morning came from everywhere.
A very pleasant walk among happy people.
Sunshine does remarkable things for people’s mood 🙂

A remarkable summer already

Temperature of 30 degrees is unusual in Denmark, but the spring weather indicates that changes are underway.
May and June have historical temperature records already.
The pictures are from 10th of June. Meteorologists predicted rain, but it evaporated before it hit the ground.
The whole country is hit by massive drought.

It’s spring.

On my way home I had a joyous walk.
Now children are building tree houses.
Okay! I’ve seen houses that are more sophisticated, but everything counts on a spring day

It’s time to get lost in the forest

Children are playing in the hills, the buzzard are circling the lake, the grass snake rushes rapidly between the newly sprouted forest foliage, a wren scolds from inside a wood stack, the frogs are singing a spring song, a lemon butterfly flies wildly over the anemones, as if it thinks, is it summer already?

Happy walk out there and leave nothing but your footprints ❤

A Miraculous Change

If spring came but once a century instead of once a year, or burst forth with the sound of an earthquake and not in silence, what wonder and expectation there would be in all hearts to behold the miraculous change.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Sometimes you have to fight against trolls…

We met small people armed with sticks and they looked very apprehensive.
They were about to explore a passage grave from the Neolithic.
The passage grave is so spacious that there certainly is room for a troll or two 🙂

The silence of snow

There are strange and mysterious sounds
When the winds of winter blow,
The long nights are crystal clear and cold,
And the fields and meadows are covered with snow.
The stars are frosty against the sky,
And the wind’s whistle is shrill,
As the snow blows against the house
And drifts against the hill.
Yet, I like to see during the winter
A white carpet on the ground,
To plod aimlessly in the deep snow,
where deer tracks abound.
I like to feel the stillness
Of a crisp winter’s night,
Watching a full moon rise over the horizon,
Exposing a winter wonderland beautiful and bright.

If possible, pack your lunch and go out into the wild.
Enjoy nature and leave only your footprints behind ❤

When nature comes close…

When the weather is grey and misty it’s nice to choose a path where nature comes close.
A winding path along a lake is always worth a walk.
The water attracts the bird life and among birch trees and shrubs, I find a large flock of blue tits and other small birds.

They look cute, the blue tits. The birds look like they are wearing dark glasses. They are very fast and always on guard.
That is why I can not show you any photos of my favorites 🙂
The blue tits always make me laugh. Lovely birds!

A lake is the landscape’s most beautiful and expressive feature.
It is earth’s eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature.
Henry David Thoreau

A Happy Walk

I had a happy walk yesterday.
For once the sun shone, and there was only one place where the path was impossible to walk. I did not want to swim and had to turn around. On the other hand, I managed to balance along the ski trail, where snow and mud were adorned by small lakes.
