Midsummer, Invisibility and Freja

The Nordic Countries celebrates Midsummer tonight. We gather magic herbs and beautiful flowers, eat a lot of good food and drink a lot of mead.
If you can get hold of a Chicory, wear the root in your right pocket, then you are invisible and can open locked doors and treasure chests.
PS Freja lives in the Elder Tree

Happy Midsummer Everyone

Buttercups and Fairy Miners

Everything is lush and green as far as the eye can see, but after a while there is something that interferes with the green.
Golden glimpse between tall pines. Buttercups. Billions of buttercups.
As if that weren’t enough, the beautiful Icelandic horses adorn the meadow and immortalise this vibrant summer day
That’s what walking is all about:
Beautiful discoveries ❤

There must be fairy miners
Just underneath the mould,
Such wondrous quaint designers
Who live in caves of gold.

They take the shining metals,
And beat them into shreds,
And mould them into petals
To make the flowers’ heads.

Sometimes they melt the flowers
To tiny seeds like pearls,
And store them up in bowers
For little boys and girls.

And still a tiny fan turns
Above a forge of gold,
To keep, with fairy lanterns,
The world from growing old.

Where beetles and frogs throw shadows

Among the old tombs, streams and lakes are sharing their life-giving force to the light green beech trees, the birds and the green frog 🙂

Twinkling Stars on the Horizon

Twinkling stars on the horizon,
the eternal song from an embracing blue sea.
The smell of sand and sea
salt on my skin and lips.
Tales from the birds of the sea,
disturbed by clattering cups
and the fragrance of coffee.
That’s my childhood memories
and the day of tomorrow.

A fleck of foam on the shining sand,
Left by the ebbing sea,
But richer than man may understand
In magic and mystery–
Transient bubbles rainbow-bright,
Myriad-hued and strange,
Tremble and throb in the noonday light,
Flower and flush and change.

A million tides have come and gone,
Great gales of autumn and spring,
A million summoning moons have shone
To bring to birth this thing–
A foam-fleck left on the ribbed wet sand
By the wave of an outgoing sea,
With all the colour of Faeryland,
Wonder and mystery.

Dear Silly Spring

We sat on a fallen tree, enjoying the warmth from the spring sun. Finally, warmer weather!
It was a wonderful day of good wind and scudding clouds.
But I noticed, small bits of cotton wool dancing in the wind, shining in the sun. Seed heads I thought, until one of the objects melted in my hand, it was snowflakes, April! 🙂

Poor, dear, silly Spring, preparing her annual surprise!

An Outstanding Suggestion

I had a chat with a man who recommended me the Botanic Garden in Charlottenlund, north of Copenhagen.
The garden isn’t very big but I found a genuine happiness walking among those huge exotic ancient trees.
A Canadian Poppel was absolutely amazing. It took me some time to tear myself away from this wonder.
There are lots of magnolia trees and bushes. When they are blooming, the sight must be quite unforgettable.
I will make an essential note in my calendar.

Earlier the garden was a unit of KVL arboretum in Hørsholm now it is the Danish Nature Agency, which administers the garden with very qualified help from:

The Beaty of Your Dreams

Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.

Be careful what you water your dreams with. Water them with worry and fear and you will produce weeds that choke the life from your dream. Water them with optimism and solutions and you will cultivate success. Always be on the lookout for ways to turn a problem into an opportunity for success. Always be on the lookout for ways to nurture your dream.

WISHING ALL OF YOU A GREAT WEEK

The Vivifying Old Forest

I’m on a walk from Mårum to Kagerup. The two old villages are linked by a railway which winds its way up through the old wonderful forest.
It’s a long time since I’ve been here, and the small paths are hidden under the fallen leaves. Only hollows reveal the path at random places.
I am glad that I can recall the way. The forest is changing due to the climate.
Fallen trees block the paths, but new footpaths meander about giant tangled network of roots and treetops.
Previously, forest workers removed the fallen trees, but today many trees are left in the undergrowth for the benefit of biodiversity
I don’t meet the horses today but instead I have a lovely chat with two fellow sufferers; walking and nature nuts 🙂

Wish you all a happy walk out there and don’t forget first second and third lunch!!

Now is the time for wandering

Now is the time for wandering. Coolness in the air, vibrant colours and bird migration. Nature wears a new dress every day. Nature is exuberant at the moment.

These photos are from Rude Skov. A forest with great variety and bogs. It is highly recommended to stay on the trails, since not all bog holes have a water mirror. If one falls into such a hole, it might be very deep and with steep slopes which could make it impossible to save oneself without help from a person on solid ground.

Hvis I lader bilen stå hjemme, kører bus 354 fra Holte Station op igennem skoven mod Høsterkøb og videre til Nivå.
Rejse med tog og bus har den fordel, at vandreturen kan varieres i det uendelige.

Love Magic and Midsummer

We have been here before in winter when snow and rain vied for the right to drench the presumptuous creatures who step out on the bare and magnificent rocky beaches.
Where the wind did its best to complete the last part of the work by pushing the haughty people to the ground.
Us who thought to master the elements rampage.
Now it’s the fabled Midsummer, where anything can happen. Days, where herbs are enchanted. It’s about Freya and Frey, Vikings, rituals, and worshipping fertility and a rich harvest.
Love and magic are associated with Midsummer. If you pick seven types of flowers on the way home, and hide them under your pillow, the dream of your loved might come true.
