Spring Equinox

March said to April…

My pictures are from my walk the last three days 🙂

March said to April,
I see three hogs upon a hill;
And if you’ll lend me three days
I’ll find a way to make them go.
The first of them was wind and wet
The second of them was snow and sleet,
The third of them was such a freeze
It froze the birds’ noses to the trees.
When the three days were past and gone
The three silly hogs cam limping home.

The silence of snow

There are strange and mysterious sounds
When the winds of winter blow,
The long nights are crystal clear and cold,
And the fields and meadows are covered with snow.
The stars are frosty against the sky,
And the wind’s whistle is shrill,
As the snow blows against the house
And drifts against the hill.
Yet, I like to see during the winter
A white carpet on the ground,
To plod aimlessly in the deep snow,
where deer tracks abound.
I like to feel the stillness
Of a crisp winter’s night,
Watching a full moon rise over the horizon,
Exposing a winter wonderland beautiful and bright.

If possible, pack your lunch and go out into the wild.
Enjoy nature and leave only your footprints behind ❤

The Frozen Beach

I was curious enough to take a very short walk along the beach. The wind was ice-cold.
The eastern wind and Jack Frost had rebuild the beach.

Silk-Stocking Gents

On my way to the grocery I met these brave silk-stocking gents posing in the frost and snow.

A walk in the month of March

Todays walk is the finest expression for the month of March:
Sun at the start, mud on the path, replaced by white creaking snow after a few hundred meters.
Then the sun disappears behind a cloud and soon sleet drifts across the fields.
Happy walk ❤

March is a tomboy with tousled hair, a mischievous smile, mud on her shoes and a laugh in her voice.

What day is it?

“What day is it?”
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.

A.A. Milne

My walk yesterday wasn’t much of a hill walk but it was an outstanding walk.
A gale ruled and the temperature was minus 8 degrees.
Therefore I planned my walk with the wind in my back.
Best walk I had for years 🙂

The North Wind Blows…

The north wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will the dormouse do then,
Poor thing?
Roll’d up like a ball,
In his nest snug and small,
He’ll sleep till warm weather comes in,
Poor thing.

Traditional ballad, The North Wind Doth Blow

Never go down on equipment

It was a bitterly cold day. For some reason I had an urge to visit the ducks down by the old mill. I enjoyed the scenery for a moment when suddenly I heard voices from under the road where a small passage allow people to sail through in canoes.
To my surprise a stand up paddler was on his way under the road and two more followed him.
The last stand-up paddler made me speechless. He was wearing plain clothes, as well as an overcoat. A crazy excursion if you ask me and yet I could not help laughing.
We have a saying in Danish: Never go down on equipment.
In this case you can take it literally 🙂

Snowflakes in February

A woman passed me in the park. Her daughter walked … no, she jumped and danced behind her mother with a red toboggan.
I nearly woke you up last night, when it started to snow, said the mother. She laughed and turned her head towards the child, who smiled happily.
A mother who loves to play, isn’t the worst thing you could wish for as a child 🙂

I counted till they danced so
Their slippers leaped the town,
And then I took a pencil
To note the rebels down.
And then they grew so jolly
I did resign the prig,
And ten of my once stately toes
Are marshalled for a jig!
