The tranquillity of heaven

You’ll wait a long, long time for anything much
To happen in heaven beyond the floats of cloud
And the Northern Lights that run like tingling nerves.
The sun and moon get crossed, but they never touch,
Nor strike out fire from each other nor crash out loud.
The planets seem to interfere in their curves
But nothing ever happens, no harm is done.
We may as well go patiently on with our life,
And look elsewhere than to stars and moon and sun
For the shocks and changes we need to keep us sane.
It is true the longest drought will end in rain,
The longest peace in China will end in strife.
Still it wouldn’t reward the watcher to stay awake
In hopes of seeing the calm of heaven break
On his particular time and personal sight.
That calm seems certainly safe to last to-night.

New Year’s Resolution

I went for a short walk yesterday.
On a path along the Mill River I spotted a new tree for dummies.
I have seen more beautiful dummy trees than this one, but the intention is not to be mistaken.
To get rid of a dummy is a huge step for at little child.

They start early, the little people with New Year’s resolutions.
2019 is the end of dummies 🙂

The good life is a process, not a state. It’s a direction, not a goal. Carl Rogers.

Happy New Year

Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true…
Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Christmas Eve in Sweden

One shade of blue for water, one for ice,
Another blue for shadows over snow.
The clear or cloudy sky uses blue twice-
Both different blues. And hills row after row
Are colored blue according to how far.
You know the bluejay’s double-blur device
Shows best when there are no green leaves to show.
And Sirius is a winterbluegreen star.

Where did Santa’s reindeer go?

The place was empty! Santa Claus was not in his office, and all the elves were gone.

At first I thought it was because the staff at the amusement park had cheated with the snow.

It takes a Santa to know ‘white’ from wrong!
The staff should know.

Then I discovered that Santa’s reindeer had run away –

… and Santa and his elves were out looking for Rudolph

The List of Missing Treasures

I have an add-on to the list of missing treasures; the stolen Money Chest.
A stolen treasure consisting of the British army’s wages is reportedly buried under this old oak.
A treasure which has been there since the British laid siege to Copenhagen in 1807
