Exploring Nature

  1. Here they are known as “Small Copper”. Beautiful, although I have not actually seen one! Love butterflies & do as much as possible to attract them into our tiny garden. 🌹🙋‍♂️

    • It was my ‘first’ Small Copper. I’ve been looking for butterflies this year in all sorts of flower beds. But it is mainly cabbage butterflies that we see everywhere.
And yet, when you least expect it, there is a magnificent example of an emperor’s robe sitting on a quite ordinary green leaf. One more thing! They do not fly in just any weather. That just makes it more exciting 🥬🌻😊
      Thanks, Ashley!!

    • Thanks a lot, Peter 🌻 Looking for butterflies is a pleasure. I have studied and admired all kinds of wild flowers this year. The moon is always beautiful on a late summer’s night.
And you are right the contrast is cool 😊😎

    • Thanks Mary!! The butterfly really is wonderful. A fellow blogger made me aware of Guppy and Shepard (2001), its specific name phlaeas is said to be derived either from the Greek φλέγω (phlégo), “to burn up”, or from the Latin floreo, “to flourish”.
I like the Latin florea, to flourish ♥️

  2. We get quite a few Small Copper butterflies by the seaside here in Devon, mainly the sit on the path and take off as you are walking towards them. Always takes a bit of stealth to get a good photo like yours

    • Thanks for that, Steve! I love the concept, stealth mode. The technology creates a myriad of possibilities of all kinds 😊
One could also use Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak 😊😊
I had one day where I saw a whole variety of butterflies. It was probably the perfect weather to walk the wings in.
