There are strange and mysterious sounds
When the winds of winter blow,
The long nights are crystal clear and cold,
And the fields and meadows are covered with snow.
The stars are frosty against the sky,
And the wind’s whistle is shrill,
As the snow blows against the house
And drifts against the hill.
Yet, I like to see during the winter
A white carpet on the ground,
To plod aimlessly in the deep snow,
where deer tracks abound.
I like to feel the stillness
Of a crisp winter’s night,
Watching a full moon rise over the horizon,
Exposing a winter wonderland beautiful and bright.

Do the herons over-winter where you live? Ours migrate south.
Years ago they migrated in very large numbers but along with the warmer weather, there are now several herons that winters.
If the winter gets harsh they take a run to France, Spain or Portugal 🙂
Though other herons might take their place from North Scandinavia.

They are wise, the birds though strange weather might disrupt their instincts.

Sometimes I’m looking for a poem to my pictures, that’s the easy part. Other times I have read a breathtaking poem, but are not able to find the right weather and the right location. That makes it a delightful challenge 🙂

Yes I have followed the English weather and the many challenges with flooding. It seems that you are having double digit temperatures now and sunshine too 🙂 Maybe I should go for a holiday in London instead of the south of Europe 🙂
We had a stunning weather in Denmark with beautiful snowy landscapes. I didn’t knew how much I missed that before I was in the middle of it!! Now it’s raining and soon the snow will disappear.

Thankfully, we are not affected by the flooding. And yes, it is very mild over here. Yesterday evening we had friends over and we talked about the quite successful wine growing industry in South East England.
I watched Cumbria and the northern part of England and Scotland. It was awful more rivers than roads!
Wine-growing is also an issue in Denmark, and after 15 years there are Danish wineries who believe in a profitable return 🙂
