The Wind

THE WIND

I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies’ skirts across the grass–
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all—
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!
By Robert Louis Stevenson

      Hanna

    • Lovely to hear from you, Karen. I fell in love with this poem. I heard it read aloud on this link. I think it is beautiful.
      All the best,
      Hanna

  2. I love this poem and the beautiful photo collection you have shared along with it. Thank you. It always brightens my spirits to see such lovely scenery. 🙂

    • Jane, I love windy weather when clouds are dancing across the sky, and the shadows flee across the fields. It was such a day my brother and I put our home made kite up for a 'walk' over the field behind our house. My Teddy bear went along as a passenger. I guess he was meant as a substitute for my brother and me 🙂
I still have an urge to fly in a balloon or a glider. The experience of silence and the landscape passing below you must be amazing.
      Wish you a great weekend.

  3. If you look at the lake, you may be able to see it is windy, but it’s probably not as when your lake in Toronto is hit by stormy weather 🙂

    • Hanna, we have the wind almost every single day. Nobody cares about this. Only early morning the Lake Ontario is smooth and quiet the rest of the time it is wavy. The windless day is a gift for us.
      Enjoy your weekend!🌞

  4. Very sad about the Teddy bear. But on the bright side, perhaps he turned into an adventurer like Robert Louis Stevenson and is still wandering through the fields and along the paths of Europe. You might hear from him one day, Hanna.
    Alen.

    • That’s a lovely thought that my Teddy bear should appear wandering about in Europe. I might even meet him on a journey on a balloon flight. He looked very satisfied hovering high above the field ❤ 🙂
